Happy Birthday Brook

JULY 10. 1986

Today is a very special day. Twenty three years and nine months ago, I found out that I was going to have a baby. I was so excited! David and I went to the doctors to confirm that it was true. You know, at home we (I) took the pregnancy test. I had to pee in a cup and dip the little stick into it, and then you have to wait for the plus+ sign, which meant I was going to have a baby. When the doctor confirmed, we were so happy. She was going to be the first grand baby on both sides, but also our first baby.

In those days only some of the doctors gave an ultra sound to find out what the sex of baby was going to be. So we had no clue. During the baby shower they use to due this thing where you would take your ring off and put it through a string, then you would lay down, and hold up the ring to see what way it would turn. I forget which way it turns but they said that she was going to be a boy. Thank God she wasn’t because all I receivedwere girl things.

The day I gave birth I remember that everyone was there. My parents, his parents, the uncles the aunts, and it was a little crazy for me. I didn’t care who was there. I just want the pain to go away. They all waited patiently for the arrival. It took 5 hours which was great for me. Everyone was right outside waiting, pacing back and forth. David was ready to hand out cigars that had a baby boy label or baby girl labels. They really weren’t cigars they were gum that looked like cigars.
The time came as they heard me yell, and then it was quite. They ask, “What’s going on?” David ran out and told them it was a girl. I can hear the excitement, the joy, and the cry of happiness. Grandmas fighting already saying, "that’s my baby", "no that’s my baby." Grandpas, they can care less, they were happy it was over.

As soon as they handed her over to me I thought, what an angel. She was gorgeous and she still is. I couldn’t believe she was mine. You know God says that children are a reward from Him.... Boy was she! I couldn’t take my eyes of her and I loved to smell her head. I still do!

Now she is 23 years old, she’s a beautiful young woman that loves the Lord and her Husband. She has been such a great example to me. I’m so proud of her, she has always been respectful and responsible. Everyone loves her. I can’t wait to see her in a few weeks to put my arms around her and smell her head. I love you Brook, have a great birthday, and know I wish I was there to be with you. You will always be my Angel, my first born, my love. So here it goes!

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to my Angel, happy birthday to you.Mommy
