Weight Loss Week 9

Here I go again; I made the decision to work on my weight, again. I hiked Wednesday, Thursday and today. It actually felt good to get moving again. I think hiking is the only exercise I like, so that’s what I’m going to do, 45 minutes 5 days a week, for now. I’m moving my body! Keep moving!

I dropped 1 lousy pound, but that’s ok…… I need to pray when I’m hungry, flee from temptation (I made chocolate cupcakes last night for the kids, not wise), read the word, and keep moving. Jade has been doing p90x, I just can’t get myself to do it. One day I will.

Weight 177

It’s so hard to lose 1 pound and so easy to gain 4. I have a bitter heart, pray for me.

1 Peter 3:14

But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled.

If the example of Jesus teaches us anything, it should be that suffering is a noble and good thing when it leads to a better way. Our diets are definitely the source of suffering, but there is great blessing awaiting all who stick with them. God has promised special blessing to those who keep courage in the face of suffering and don't give in. Losing weight not only makes us look and feel better, but it draws us closer to God and His divine plan for us. Our suffering is not in vain. It is all to the glory of the Lord.

Today's thought: I will fear nothing, as long as Jesus is with me!

Weight Loss Week 8

I haven’t really done anything this last two weeks; I guess I just got tired of working on my weight. It’s like a roller coaster, up and down, up and down. I know what I should be doing, but just don’t do it. Why do I do this? I start off really well and then at a center point I just give up. It’s too much work! I gained eight pounds, It’s so frustrated, I work so hard to lose 1 pound and in 1 week I can gain 4 pounds, I know I didn’t eat that much. I really just want to give up.

I was going to finally get into my 60’s and I blew it. The last time I was in my 60 was when Jade was born. My daughter Brook thinks that I sabotage myself, but why would I do that?

I do want to lose weight, but I don’t want to do the work! I don’t want to work out; I don’t want to count my points. I want to eat whatever and whenever I want.

Why do I want to lose weight?

I don’t want this roll on my stomach, I want to fit in to my size 8 pants, and I want to look nice. Why do I want this? Does it really matter? Whose attention do I want? Am I doing this for me? Is there a purpose?

I have a lot to think about! I have to make a decision, I know that I don’t want to gain weight, but slowing it creeps up. So, it still means that I have to watch what I eat anyways, even though it doesn’t seem like I’m eating vey much.

God help me, I’m depressed. I want to just give up! 8 pound…. really!

Weight Loss Week 7

New Year Resolution Update

I have to confess, I didn’t post on Saturday because I truly did badly. I didn’t even weigh myself because I didn’t want to see what the scale may say. I didn’t feel like I over did it, but I did. Last week I was in OK and just ate whatever I wanted. I ate when I was not hungry, ate late at night, I didn’t run to God, and fall in to temptation. I did not exercise at all, matter of fact; I let my son walk the dog instead of me.

Why did I do that? To be honest, I didn’t want to work on my weight; I just wanted to do whatever I wanted to. We all have some sin we have to repent of and it does take work. I wish I can just eat whatever and not deal with this, but I do!

This may be hard for some of you to read, but please read and consider what God may be telling you. I know this is for me and want to share what He is telling me.

Gluttony is a sin.

This is from my personal journal, I need to repent!

Deny food! And put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite. Proverbs 23:2

The gluttonous use of food high in sugar and fat takes away from the nutritional balance of milk, fruit, vegetables meat, and bread which contains fiber and other nutrients for good digestion and heath.

First and foremost, we are not to satisfy our selfish and harmful appetites but rather use our bodies to bring glory to God (1 Cor. 6:19,20).

Gluttony can indicate excessive eating and drinking, and it does refer to a ravenous, nearly unstoppable, appetite, It is to food what greed is to material wealth, a carving that cannot be satisfied. It also associated with a loose and undisciplined lifestyle-disobedience, stubbornness, and rebellion.

If we (me) are committing the sin of gluttony eating when we are not hungry we must confess repent this as sin and thus use truth. We can then receive the forgiveness God gives us in Christ He want us to start refreshed, He gives us  mercy.

I am going to start refreshed, though my flesh does not want to get up and exercise, I don’t want to deny my appetite, but I need to because God knows what is best for me and it's sin, sin leads to death..... I want to be used for Him properly so He can get the glory.

Holy Spirit I call out to you for help!....... I will do my part!

Psalm 37:5

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Alice Layden was a woman with no self-control. As long as I knew her, she had been terribly overweight. I hadn't seen Alice for over two years when she showed up one day on my front door-step. She looked fabulous! When I asked how she had finally done it, she said, 'I asked God to help me, and I just kept asking Him. Every morning, every noontime, each evening, and anytime I felt hungry, which was almost all the time, I just said a little prayer for God to get me through. He did it! After I thought I'd just about run out of things to try, I found what I should have known all along. God did for me what I was unable to do for myself!'

Today's thought: The more time spent in prayer, the less time left to eat!

Weight Loss Week 6

New Year Resolution Update

This week, I will continue to ask God to help me to stick with everything I need to do. I desire to honor Him with the body He gave me, and pray when I’m tempted! I will continue to invite Him to be at the center of my dining experience.

I will eat when my body is hungry, eat the right amount, eat in a calm environment, eat when I’m sitting, eat when my body and mind are relaxed, eat and drink the things my body enjoys, eat slowly, savoring each bite, and stop before my body is full.

I also need to thank God for His generous provisions, and pray that the food would bring physical satisfaction and health to my body.

Food

I did well this week; I did everything I was supposed to do, and eat the right amount! Weight Watchers really helps me keep on track with the amount my body needs.

Exercise

This week, I didn’t do so well, I didn’t work out at all. I really wanted to, but really wanting to, doesn’t get the job done. Maybe next week, since we will have nicer weather.

Scale

Did you know that the scale has trouble shooting section?

1. Place feet in the same position every time you weigh yourself

2. Weigh yourself without clothing whenever possible.

3. Move the scale to a location where it won’t be bumped.

4. For the most consistent reading, weigh yourself at the same time of the day.

Yay, I lost 2 pounds this week. I love my new scale.

Have you ever looked at the Body Mass Index? Who came up with this? I looked up 64 inches and I am now overweight instead off obese,…. by one pound. Do I say yay or nay?

Weigh

I weigh 173.

Until next week…..

Weight Loss Tip for the Week

Try adding different types of food instead of subtracting.

Fitness Tip for the Week

Go out and just do it!

Dining Out Dos and Don’ts

Don’t be afraid to tell the waiter exactly what you want and don’t want. Dressing on the side, one meal on two plates, and do not bring bread to the table ect, ect, ect…..

Myth

Once I lose weight, my whole life will be different.

Fact

People who successfully lose weight often do change many aspects of their lives. Losing weight will probably change your look and improve your health and self confidence. But keep in mind, what really matters is your relationship with the LORD and to continue to be spiritual fed.

Revelation 21:7

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Being thin is a wonderful goal. Regaining health and vigor is also great. Looking and feeling good are important, but both pale in comparison with how good it is to please the Lord by being the best people we can be. When we diet, we not only gain physically, but also spiritually. Resisting temptation tones our spiritual being as well as dieting tones our physical being. When we reach our goal in our diet, we reach a second goal, as well: We do what is pleasing to God. When we are faithful to do the will of the Lord, we can rest assured that we have an eternal home with Him.

Today's thought: Dieting makes me a spiritual overcomer as well as a physical overcomer!

Weight Loss Update Week 5

New Year Resolution Update

This pass month I have been working on the amount of food my body needs, running to Jesus instead of food, eating only when I’m really hungry, eating in a calm environment, and keeping track of what I eat.

I now want to focus on rebuilding this temple. This may be a different approach, but I know that I can’t lose weight without God. I will ask God what He would like to accomplish in my life. So I will begin by inviting God into the activity and listening to the Holy Spirit. I feel like God has called me to release excess weight, so I can serve Him better. It’s not about how much you weigh, but how well you will be able to serve God.

I have children; can I play with them without getting tired and out of breath? Can I do the chores around the house? This is the ministry God has given and called me to. I want to better serve and glorify Him the best I can with this body I have.

1 Corinthians 3:16 say’s “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? The word “temple” here is used in the metaphorical sense to refer to persons in who God or His Holy Spirit is said to dwell or act.

Food

I did pretty good this week, ate the right amount, and ate when I was hungry. Except last night, my daughter and I made chocolate cake with cheese cream frosting. So, this morning I was really tempted and fell. I had my daughter prayed for me; my spirit is willing but my flesh is weak. I need to run to Jesus when I’m tempted. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Exercise

This week, I didn’t do so well, I hiked once. I could blame it on the weather, or on my hiking partner (my daughter), which went back to CA, but the truth is, I just didn’t feel like it. I really have to work on this. I need to exercise 5 days out of the week or at least every other day for 30 minutes.

Scale

Yay, I went ahead and bought a new scale. My old scale ended up being 4 ½ pounds off. I weigh 4 ½ pounds less now and I lost 2 pounds this week. I love my new scale.

Weigh

I weigh 175. Wait, what, I told you how much I weigh! Well, I guess it’s better than 216, which is where I stated off at.

Until next week…..

Weight Loss Tip for the Week

Don’t keep anything in the house that will tempt you to over eat. This is hard, if you have children, try to buy healthy things to eat.

Fitness Tip for the Week

The best activity plan for weight loss and maintenance includes cardio, resistance and stretching.

Dining Out Dos and Don’ts

Watch out for extras

The average hamburger with ketchup is not bad, but the one with the work is. Skip the bacon, chesses and mayo. You can have a protein style, which means to leave the bread out.

Myth

Having a lapse is a sigh that I can’t do this.

Fact

You’re learning to lose weight in the real world, not the perfect one. A lapse is not a sign of failure. It is normal part of the weight loss process. Think of a lapse as an opportunity to build new skills for the future.

Jude 24

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.

There was a girl by the name of Jennifer who was always getting herself into trouble because she couldn't say no. She had absolutely no resistance to any temptation. Then she met Beth. Beth was able to be a voice of reason and common sense for Jennifer. Jennifer knew that if she was tempted, Beth would get her through. Jesus Christ can be to us what Beth was to Jennifer; He can be our voice of reason. Whenever we feel ourselves being tempted, we need to turn toward Him. He is able to keep us from falling. When we find ourselves too weak to handle a situation, we can rest assured that Jesus is indeed strong enough.

Today's thought: Jesus can keep me on the right track!

Weight Loss Update Week 4

New Year Resolution Update

This week, I’m going to focus on the amount of points or calories I need. I will also keep track on everything I eat. Most of the time I forget what I ate and go over the amount my body needs. Keeping track helps me not over eat “mindless munching”. Keeping track means writing it down.

When I’m busy or stressful I have a bad habit of unconscious eating, I’m not aware of what I’m putting in my month. That’s such a bad habit. I caught myself last night, my daughter had a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheat spoonfuls, and I grabbed a hand full and started munching. Focus…….self-awareness.

I have my favorite foods I like to eat, and know exacting how many point they’re. I like to eat the same things over and over, so I have them on hand when it’s snack time. Fruit is a better snack, but sometimes I don’t want fruit. Here are my favorites.

1 point for 20 chips

0 points or 2 bags for 1 point
3 points

2 slices for 1 point
Food
I ate the right amount, my stomach is getting full on the small amounts, and I’m eating when I’m hungry. Tonight was hard, because my husband wanted to eat at an all you can eat buffet. So, I let Dennis and the kids serve themselves first, I waited till they were half way through, and then served myself. Half of my plate was veggies, and then I picked Sushi rolls, which, I knew were 6 points. Yes, I did have dessert. On WW I get to have 35 extra points a week. So, I had a small piece of chesses cake and jello.

Exercise

I hiked 4 days out of the week, for about 50 minutes. I’m so proud of myself. I set a goal to hike 5 days out of the week. I have one more day to go.

Scale

This week I love the scale, I lost 2 pounds, and my clothes are fitting much better. My daughter is visiting, and she jumped on the scale, well, my scale is about 7 pounds off. It is really time for me to buy a new scale. Oh, its 7 pounds higher than it should be. Meaning, I’m 7 pounds lighter than I thought. YAY

Weigh

This month I have lost 6 pounds! I weigh 1?2

Until next week…..

Weight Loss Tip for the Week

Drink water! Water is one of a weight manager’s best tools. You will often find it wasn’t food you needed, but fluid.

Fitness Tip for the Week

Add some new activities; you can boost your metabolism with resistance training.

Dining Out Dos and Don’ts

If you know that you’re going to dine out, learn what they serve, and figure out how many points it will be. Example: 1 California roll is 6 points, Taco bell burrito is 7 points ect, ect……

Myth

To lose weight, I have to follow a diet perfectly.

Fact

Weight lose is about progress, not perfection.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts should be established.

A woman I know carried a pocket New Testament with her wherever she went. Often I would see her pull it out of her pocketbook and begin reading. One day I asked her why she seemed so intent on her reading whenever I saw her. She said, 'I read it whenever I get hungry. I'm trying to control my weight, so whenever I feel a physical hunger, I feed myself spiritually instead. It takes my mind off my hunger and puts it where it should be-on the Lord.' What a wonderful lesson. If we will find new ways to include God in our diet, He will turn our thoughts where they need to be!

Today's thought: There are ways to be fed (spiritually without getting fat!)

Weight Loss Update Week 3

New Year Resolution Update

Here I go, the first week I focused on the amount of food, second week focused on why I eat and this week I will focus on being a conscious eater and get moving.

Reminder, my stomach is as big as my fist, eat when I have stomach hunger and not heart hunger and get moving.

This week, I will focus on eating in a clam environment, eating when I’m sitting down, eating when my body and mind are relaxed, eat and drink what my body enjoys, pay attention to food while eating, eat slowly and savor each bite, they say we should chew 20 times before swallowing, and stop before I’m full.

It’s not what I eat it’s the amount that I need to work on. I know, I can’t sit and eat a gallon of ice cream. I do need to make right choice on what I put in my body and I can't forget, I need to drink water too!

Food
I ate about 5 fist size meals this week, it was hard because my family is here and they cooked some good meals. When we all get together I tend to eat more because I’m happy, God reminds me that I don't need to eat because I'm happy but eat because I need to........ I live to eat or do I eat to live?

Exercise

I feel bad because I wanted to exercise more this week, I did so good last week and walked 6 times but this week I walked only once for 20 minutes. I need to get moving!

Scale

Last week I despised the scale, this week I love it. You have to remember it’s not all about the scale, it’s about how you feel and how your clothes fit. Last week I worked hard and gained 3 pounds. This week I didn’t work as hard and lost 3 pounds.

Weigh

1?4 YAY!

Until Next Week…….

Weight Loss tip for the Week

Talk about your weight lose efforts to someone that will encourage you by telling you to keep up the good work.

Fitness Tip for the Week

Focus on moving about 30 minutes a day, walking, dancing, and hiking. Do whatever you like as long as you’re moving.

Dining Out Dos and Don’t

Order yourself a children’s meal

Myth

I shouldn’t eat any fat.

Fact: Fat serves many important functions, such as strong energy, transporting certain vitamins and providing flavor and texture to food. When it comes to weight loss, calories are the bottom line.

Romans 10:9

. . .if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Talk to Jesus. Seriously, He is waiting to listen to you and help you in your struggle to lose weight. Sometimes we wrestle with the urge to cheat on our diets until we are emotional wrecks. This happens most often when we are alone, with no one to talk to. Don't forget, Christ is always with you, and He is as close as prayer. Tell Him how difficult it is. Let Him know your struggle, and He will indeed comfort you. There is never a time in our lives when Jesus is not interested in everything that is happening to us. Call upon Him, confess Him as Lord, and you will be saved!

Today's thought: Jesus is as close as a prayer!

Weight Loss Update Week 2

New Year Resolation Update

This week was very interesting, so many different emotions running through me. I’ve felt excitement, stress, worry, joy, lonely, disconnected, and discontent. I need to run to Jesus and not food, its called heart hunger. Many times I’ve ran to food to comfort me. This time I ran to Jesus, and He comforted me.

When the body is hungry, the stomach grumbles and burns, ect. It takes about 5 hours for me to be really hungry. That’s when I know I need food. I need to eat when my body is hungry. Did you know that your stomach is as big as your fist? That’s how much food we are supposed to eat, the size of your fist. I think my stomach is as big as a MACK truck. I like to eat two very small snacks, one after lunch and one after dinner.

Food

I focused on the portion of my food and ate when I was hungry. I thought I was hungry a lot but asked myself, “is this heart or stomach hunger?” I talk to myself all the time. Don’t forget to drink water!

Exercise

I walked a lot this week. Brody, my sister’s dog had to be walked every day. So off I went, about 30 minutes 6 days a week.

Scale

I already told you that I don’t have a good relationship with the scale, last week I loved it. I try my best not to step on it every day. Some people say to weigh yourself every day, some say to weigh once a week. This week I weighed myself once and I have gained 3 pounds. I know it doesn’t make sense to me. …but I’m not going to give up. That’s how my body is…..I do know that my pants fit me better, so I lost inches.  I weigh 1?7 I despise that scale!!!!
I'm throwing you out the door!

Until Next Week…….

Weight Loss tip for the Week

Eat only when your body is hungry and remember your stomach is as big as your fist.

Fitness Tip for the Week

Exercise a little bit more than last week.

Dining Out Dos and Don’t

Ordering a salad as a starter and split a meal with a friend. Don’t order appetizers or side meals.

Myth:

Certain foods can help burn fat.

Fact: There are no foods with magic fat-burning ingredients. Some foods with caffeine temporally speed up your metabolism, but probably not enough to lead to weight loss.

Proverbs 21:21

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

Long-distance runners train themselves to think of the finish line. They visualize it just ahead. They say this keeps them from wanting to give up somewhere along the way. The reward of crossing the finish line is worth more than any pain or discomfort on the way. Dieters can learn from this. Instead of dwelling on how hungry we are, or how much we long for rich foods, we should continually think in terms of the rewards that await us at the end. Christians follow Christ with hope of a heavenly reward. Faith means we await something yet to come. Dieting means we live in the hope of trimming down and looking fit.

Today's thought: The reward of our diet is greater than the sacrifice!

Weight Loss Update Week 1

New Year Resolution Update

This week was pretty good. Saturday, January 1, was the beginning (again) of my weight loss journey. My New Year Resolution is to lose weight. Really, it’s a way of a life. I need to learn self control, it’s not what I eat it’s the amount. I think if I just buy low fat cookies I can eat as many as I want. The problem isn’t the cookie; it’s my heart that wants more, more, and more.

So, then I ask, “Why am I doing this. Am I bored, upset, angry, happy, bitter, or sad ect… ect…” The real issue isn’t why. I’m good at blaming things on my behavior. It’s of the flesh. I need to stop walking in the flesh. I need to take responsibility for my actions. I really want to encourage you all, that's why I'm sharing this with you. These are the things I have learned through this journey of mine.

Food

This week, I focused on the amount of food I need. Weight Watchers is good for that, or you can learn to eat the amount your body needs, by finding out how many calories you should eat. I need 1300 cal, or 22 points (weight watchers). 3500 calories results in a one pound weight gain. So, if you reduce your calories by 500 every day, in a week you’d typically lose one pound.

Exercise

I exercised four times this week. I really wanted to exercise 5 times. Maybe, I will next week. Saturday the family and I went for a hike, we hiked for 30minutes, Monday I stepped for 20 minutes, Wednesday I stepped for 40 minutes, and Friday I walked for 25 minutes. The more we move the better. Did you know that Jesus walked everywhere? Most of the towns He walked to were 20 miles away. So get moving!

Scale

I have this love hate despise relationship with the scale. When I see the numbers drop I love it, if I see the numbers stay the same I hate it, but, if I see the numbers increase, I despise it! I jumped on the scale Saturday morning and I was not happy, it was more than I thought .I weigh1?8 (I am not going to tell you how much I weigh). I despised the scale on that day!

Now, I weigh 1?4. YAY I lost 4 pounds! I love the scale today.

Until Next Saturday……..

Weight Loss tip for the Week

Do not eat everything that you may want. I guess that means I’ll eat nothing this week. lol

Fitness tip for the Week

Learn to love exercise.

Dining Out Dos and Don’ts

Some restaurant portions can be two, three, even four times the “normal “size- especially super sized fast food meals. Keep your portion in check. Cut the meal in half, which always works or stop when you’re satisfied….. Satisfied = between hungry and full.

Hebrews 9:22

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

If we learn anything at all from being a Christian, we learn that good things do not come without sacrifice. Jesus had to give everything He had in order to reunite us with God. If we decide to be the best we can be, then we need to accept the fact that there is some sacrifice required. When we learn to sacrifice, we learn what it means to be a Christian. Sacrifice is a good discipline. Sacrifice teaches us what is really important, and it helps us be thankful for what we have. When we stop to think of how great Christ's sacrifice for us was, it inspires us in our diets to become better people; people worth dying for!

Week's thought: Dieting can draw me closer to being a disciple!

New Year Resolution 2011

Here we go again, a new year! What will be my new resolution? I know..... lose weight!

Brother-in-law it's Calvin and Hobbes

Most of us want to lose weight. Yes, I have other ones, like having more wisdow, knowledge of God and His will for my life, don't forget, understanding....But that's a no brainer right Mom!

Where do I begin?
We start off with a big bang, but fizzel out in about a few months. I did pretty good this past year, I fizzled out in June. We join a gym, buy all the cool exercise equipment, watch Biggest Loser (my favorite show). Here comes the fizzel...all of a sudden we notice dust gathering up on all the cool equipment. Say to your self " I'll go to the gym tomorrow, there is always tomorrow. This will be my last good meal! (dining out)" I talk to my self all the time.

I'm big boned
I don't want to look like that again. I lost 35 pounds this passed year...YAY for me! Give or take 5 pounds but holding. I weighed 216!

Eat what I want...Its the self control and quantity we need to learn.
1. Eat the right amount!
Ask , What do you think God would want you to eat and how much?

2. Exercise
I exercised 30 min to 60 min every 5 to 6 days of the week. I walked, hiked, stepped, and biked. It worked!

3. Pray
Especially when I was hungry and ate 20 minutes ago. Normally you need to eat every 5 hours. I like my snacks though. Help LORD!

4.Read
Read every thing that will help you focus on your goal. I also read what the bible said about gluttony...I was not happy.

Jesus come and take me away

This year, I guess I have 4 resolutions. I want to lose 30 pounds, but I will start January 1st or 2nd.  I can do this and so can you! Remember first and foremost we are not to satisfy our selfish and harmful appetites but rather use our bodies to bring glory to God.
